Conditions Treated

Lymphoedema

Lymphoedema is the swelling of a body part caused by an abnormal accumulation of protein-rich fluid in the tissues. Although lymphoedema can occur anywhere in the body, it is most usually troublesome in an arm or leg.

I am experienced in treating lymphoedema in whatever part of the body it presents, including the Head, Face and Neck, whatever the cause.

Secondary Lymphoedema is the most common form, which is caused by damage to the lymphatic system. This is often the result of cancer surgery, radiotherapy, or repeated infections.

Picture 3 shows Primary Lymphoedema. This is a less common condition, normally caused by congenital malformation of the lymphatic system.

It can be evident at birth, or may not present until later in life.

Hormonal surges such as puberty, pregnancy or menopause may trigger the appearance of Primary lymphoedema. Early treatment and good control are vital for the best outcome.

Lymphovenous Oedema

Lymphovenous Oedema is a chronic swelling due to underlying venous disease. Oedema can develop over time due to the drainage system being overwhelmed and the lymphatics damaged by repeated infections. In time this leads to a lymphoedema that will not resolve without specialist intervention. Dawn has extensive in wound healing and therefore we can treat you even if there is an ulcer present.
